Biography

Born in Ireland, the daughter of Sir Frederick Hughes of Rosslare Fort, Wexford, Myra Kathleen Hughes moved to London to study at Westminster School of Art and at the Royal College of Art where she was trained in the techniques of etching and engraving by Frank Short and Constance Pott. Elected an associate of the Royal Society of Painter Etchers and Engravers in 1911, she exhibited at the Royal Academy and at the Paris Salon. M.K.Hughes's detailed topographical etchings are characterised by their fineness of line in a manner reminiscent of the work of her teacher Constance Pott.
